Overview & First Impressions
A flat, pocket-shaped light with three separate optical jobs is an unusual brief, and the Jetbeam E26 KUNAI UV fills it well. You get a 2000 lumen white main beam, a 365 nanometre ultraviolet channel for inspection work, and a green pointer, all in a body designed to sit flat against a thigh rather than as a cylinder in a pocket. It belongs to the same Jetbeam flashlights family as the E26 KUNAI TAC but trades the laser for a UV emitter, and it makes a surprisingly good EDC flashlight for anyone whose work involves checking things as well as lighting them.
Materials & Construction
The flat body is machined aluminium with a hard anodised surface, and the shape is genuinely useful: it does not roll, it does not print through trouser fabric, and it sits flush against the leg so you forget it is there. The switch is recessed to prevent accidental activation, charging is over Type-C behind a sealed flap, and the lens array is protected by a recessed bezel. Heat management is handled by the flat body acting as a heatsink, which is why turbo is treated as a burst mode rather than a setting you leave running.
Design & Details
Three emitters, one switch, and a mode logic that keeps you out of trouble. The white channel offers multiple brightness levels with a low that genuinely preserves night vision, the UV channel is a true 365 nanometre emitter rather than a violet-filtered white LED, and the green pointer handles presentation and signalling. That UV wavelength matters because it is the one that makes security markings, fluorescent dyes and certain mineral and biological traces visible, which is exactly what inspection and forensic work requires.
Real-World Use
The UV channel earns its place in several trades: checking currency and documents, tracing leaks with fluorescent dye, verifying adhesive and conformal coating coverage, spotting pet stains, and confirming that a hotel room was actually cleaned. The white channel covers the ordinary jobs a pocket light does, and the flat body means it comes along without being a nuisance. Because it is so slim it also works as a clip-on light for a shirt pocket, which makes close work much easier than holding a torch in your teeth.
Ownership Notes
Ownership is straightforward if you respect two rules: do not look into the UV emitter, and do not leave the light somewhere a child can find it. Beyond that it is a standard rechargeable torch with a standard cable, and the anodising holds up well to pocket life. Enthusiasts who run Fenix flashlights with secondary emitters will recognise the approach, and anyone upgrading from a cylindrical Klarus flashlights model will appreciate how much less the flat body interferes with movement. It sits apart from the rest of the Jetbeam tactical flashlights range because the secondary emitters are inspection tools rather than signalling options.
Who Is This For?
This is for tradespeople who inspect, technicians and engineers, cleaners and property managers, hobbyists working with fluorescent materials, and travellers who like the flat carry. It is not the right light for someone who wants maximum throw in minimal size, because flat bodies trade reflector depth for shape. For anyone who does both lighting and checking in a day, it replaces two tools and takes up less space than one.
Final Verdict
The E26 KUNAI UV is a thoughtfully specified multi-tool of a light. The white output is competitive, the UV channel is a real 365 nanometre emitter rather than a marketing claim, and the flat carry is a genuine daily improvement. If your work involves looking closely at things, this is one of the most practical lights in the catalogue.
