Bestech HEIDI BLACKSMITH#3: Ultra-Light EDC Fixed Blade Review

Heidi's BLACKSMITH series has consistently impressed me with its thoughtful design, but the third generation—the HEIDI BLACKSMITH#3—might be my favorite yet. I've been carrying all three variants—the BFK07A, BFK07B, and BFK07C—and they share a remarkable new focus: ultra-lightweight, compact utility. The blade is a 2.31-inch 14C28N stainless steel, a Scandinavian steel prized for its excellent edge retention and toughness. At just 40-44 grams, these knives are almost impossibly light, disappearing into a pocket or on a neck chain. The overall length is 6.06 inches, and each comes with a fitted Kydex sheath. The differences are in the handle material, color, and blade finish, offering a choice for every personality.

The Shared Foundation: A Tiny Titan of a Blade

Every BLACKSMITH#3 shares Heidi's focus on efficiency. The 2.31-inch 14C28N steel blade is a superb choice for an EDC fixed blade—it takes a razor edge, is easy to sharpen, and resists corrosion. The slim 2.5mm blade thickness makes it an excellent slicer for detail work, from opening packages to food prep. The full tang ensures durability despite the tiny size. The included Kydex sheath is secure and minimalist, perfect for pocket or neck carry. At just 40-44 grams, you'll forget it's there until you need it. The choice of handle and finish is where you make it your own.

BFK07A (Satin Blade / Black G10): The Understated Classic

The BFK07A is the most traditional of the trio. It features a satin-finished 14C28N blade and a black G10 handle. The satin finish is clean and classic, showing light scratches but easy to maintain. The black G10 is durable, grippy, and professional. At 44 grams, it's the heaviest of the group, but still featherlight. This is the version for the purist who wants a no-nonsense, timeless EDC fixed blade that will blend in anywhere.

BFK07B (Black PVD Blade / Orange G10): The High-Visibility Performer

The BFK07B is impossible to lose. It pairs a black PVD-coated blade with a striking orange G10 handle. The black PVD finish is sleek, non-reflective, and adds corrosion resistance. The orange G10 is incredibly vibrant, making this knife easy to spot in a dark pack or if you drop it outdoors. At 44 grams, it's the same weight as the A, but with a bold, tactical-meets-safety look. If you want a knife that's both functional and highly visible, the BFK07B is a fantastic choice.

BFK07C (Stonewash Blade / Green Micarta): The Lightweight Naturalist

The BFK07C is the lightest of the trio at just 40 grams. It features a stonewashed 14C28N blade and a green micarta handle. The stonewash finish is forgiving and low-glare. The micarta is warm, grippy, and will develop a beautiful patina with use. The green color is natural and earthy. This version feels organic and ready for outdoor adventures. The weight savings come from the micarta, and it's noticeable—this knife truly vanishes in hand. If you appreciate natural materials and the lightest possible carry, the BFK07C is your pick.

Which BLACKSMITH#3 Fits Your Pocket?

All three share Heidi's excellent, ultra-light design and the superb 14C28N steel. The BFK07A is the understated classic. The BFK07B is a high-visibility performer with a bold look. And the BFK07C is a lightweight naturalist's dream. Whichever you choose, you're getting a knife that proves you don't need size to have substance—a tiny fixed blade that's ready for anything, every single day.
