Overview & First Impressions
The Riflestock is one of the most distinctive designs in the Tenable knives catalogue, a Nick Swan lock back with a stock that reads as much as a traditional working folder as a modern EDC piece. Two of the newest trims arrived together and they represent opposite ends of the same argument. The B2131S1 wears a water ripple Damascus blade with light blue anodised aluminium, while the B2131S3 pairs a blackwash Nitro-V blade with twill carbon fibre. Choosing between them is a question of character versus daily practicality.
Materials & Construction
Both share the same frame geometry and lock back mechanism, so the difference is genuinely the blade and the handle material. The S1 Damascus steel blade is pattern-welded and etched, which means every example looks slightly different and the finish will develop character with use. The S3 uses Nitro-V, a nitrogen-alloyed stainless known for toughness and fine edge stability, finished in a durable blackwash that hides scratches well. The carbon fibre handle is light and stiff; the anodised aluminium is a touch heavier and more impact resistant.
Design & Details
The Riflestock is a lock back, which means a strong, simple mechanism with no detent to tune and nothing to wear out quickly. The blade shape is a practical working profile with a sensible belly for slicing and enough point for detail work. Jimping on the spine gives control, and the handle is shaped so the knife sits securely whether you grip close to the pivot or further back. These are folding knives designed to be used, not just displayed, and the lock back reflects that intent.
Real-World Use
In the field the Nitro-V version is the one that asks for less attention. It resists staining, takes a fine edge without fuss and the blackwash finish swallows the marks that daily pocket carry produces. The Damascus trim rewards a different kind of use: it cuts just as well, but the pattern shifts in the light and the blade becomes a talking point whenever it comes out. For somebody who uses a knife hard every day, the S3 is the honest choice, and for somebody who wants one memorable piece, it is the S1.
Ownership Notes
Maintenance differs in kind rather than difficulty. Nitro-V wants nothing more than a wipe and occasional sharpening, while Damascus steel benefits from a light oil and a gentle approach to cleaning so the etch stays crisp. Collectors who already own Tenable knives will recognise the same quality control and the same well-tuned pivot. Keep the lock back slot free of pocket lint, and both knives will open and close cleanly for years. Both trims are stocked as part of the Tenable Riflestock collection.
Who Is This For?
Choose the B2131S3 if you want a tough, low-maintenance everyday knife that handles hard use and hides wear. Choose the B2131S1 if you want a piece with visual character, appreciate pattern-welded steel and enjoy owning something that looks different from everyone else's knife. Neither is a bad decision, and neither is fragile. Buyers who are new to premium folders will find the Nitro-V version the easier introduction.
Final Verdict
Two trims, one excellent platform. The Nitro-V and twill carbon version is the more practical knife and the one we would recommend as a working tool, while the Damascus and anodised aluminium version is the one that will still be admired in ten years. If you can only buy one and you intend to carry it daily, take the S3. If you are buying for the pleasure of owning it, take the S1.
