154CM Steel, developed by Crucible Industries in the 1970s and originally intended for jet engine turbine components, is now a favored choice among knife makers for its exceptional balance of toughness, corrosion resistance, and edge retention. With a chromium content of 14% and molybdenum content of 4%, it is known for its high toughness, which allows it to withstand heavy use without chipping or breaking. The steel also offers excellent corrosion resistance, surpassing many other steels, making it suitable for use in wet or humid conditions. It achieves a Rockwell hardness (HRC) of 58-61, providing a good balance between wear resistance and the ability to maintain a sharp edge.
