Bestech VK-CORE: Vulpex's Lightweight Fixed Blade Available in Four Finishes

I have a soft spot for well-designed fixed blades. They're inherently stronger than folders and simpler to maintain. The Bestech VK-CORE, designed by Vulpex_Knives, caught my attention immediately with its clean lines and promise of lightweight EDC performance. I've been testing all four variants—the BFK05A, BFK05B, BFK05C, and BFK05D—and they share an impressive core: a 3.19-inch blade of 14C28N stainless steel, a steel known for excellent edge retention and toughness. At just 2.7 ounces, it disappears in a pocket or on a neck chain. The only difference is the blade finish, and each has a distinct personality.

The Shared Foundation: A Perfectly Proportioned Fixed Blade

Every VK-CORE shares the same thoughtful design. The blade is 3.19 inches long and 0.142 inches thick—sturdy enough for serious cutting but slim enough for precision work. The 14C28N steel takes a razor edge and is easy to sharpen. The handle is bead-blasted for a secure grip, and the overall length of 7.69 inches makes it versatile for everything from camp chores to food prep. The weight is perfectly balanced. This is a knife that begs to be used. The choice of finish is purely about aesthetics and how you want your blade to wear.

BFK05A (Stonewash): The Classic Workhorse

The BFK05A features a classic stonewashed finish. It's a medium-grey, matte texture that's incredibly forgiving—it hides scratches and wear better than any other finish. The stonewash also reduces glare, making it a great choice for outdoor use. This is the "original" VK-CORE, and it's the one I'd recommend to anyone who wants a no-nonsense, durable tool that will look good for years. It's the workhorse of the family.

BFK05B (Black Stonewash): The Stealth Operator

The BFK05B takes the stonewash concept and makes it dark. The black stonewashed finish is rugged, non-reflective, and looks incredibly tactical. Like the standard stonewash, it hides wear exceptionally well. This version feels more serious, more "operator-ready." If you prefer your gear in black and want a blade that disappears in low light, the BFK05B is your pick.

BFK05C (Acid Dark Stonewash): The Deepest Dark

The BFK05C features an acid dark stonewash. It's similar to the black stonewash but even deeper and richer—almost like a very dark charcoal. The acid treatment gives it a slightly different texture and an even more worn-in look. This is the most "battle-worn" aesthetic of the group. If you want a blade that looks like it's already been on countless adventures, the BFK05C is a fantastic choice.

BFK05D (Ceramic Bead Blast): The Bright Minimalist

The BFK05D is the outlier. It features a ceramic bead blast finish that's lighter, brighter, and slightly more textured than the stonewashed versions. It has a clean, almost industrial look. This finish is more susceptible to showing wear than the stonewashed ones, but it also has a unique, grippy feel. This is for the minimalist who appreciates a bright, clean blade and doesn't mind it developing a patina of use.

Which VK-CORE Fits Your Carry?

All four share Vulpex_Knives' excellent design and the superb 14C28N steel. The BFK05A is the classic, all-purpose workhorse. The BFK05B and BFK05C offer increasingly dark, tactical aesthetics. And the BFK05D is a bright, minimalist alternative. Whichever you choose, you're getting one of the most thoughtfully designed lightweight fixed blades on the market—a knife that proves you don't need size to have substance.
