Johan Jordaan's Tenable Heron: Six Fishing-Inspired Flavors – Which EDC Hooks You?

Johan Jordaan designed the Heron while fishing by a river—a knife he’d want to carry on the water, in the woods, or every day. I’ve been carrying all six variants—the B2124V1, B2124V2, B2124V3, B2124V4, B2124V5, and B2124V6—and they share a superb platform. The 3.13-inch leaf-shaped blade (in Nitro-V or Damascus) is versatile and slicey, the crossbar lock is ambidextrous and fidget-friendly, and the neutral handle fits a variety of grips. The differences in handle material (aluminum or G10) and blade finish give each version a distinct character, whether you prefer the heft of aluminum or the lightweight grip of G10.

The Shared Foundation: A Leaf-Shaped Crossbar Lock Platform

Every Heron shares Johan’s thoughtful design. The 3.13-inch leaf-shaped blade is broad and flat-ground, making it an exceptional slicer for fishing, food prep, and general outdoor tasks. The Nitro-V steel (or Damascus on the V3) offers excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance. The crossbar lock is smooth, reliable, and works with the opening hole for thumb rolls or reverse flicks. The handle is ergonomically neutral, fitting a wide range of hand sizes. The steel clip is reversible, and the overall length is 7.09 inches. The choice between aluminum and G10, and the various finishes, is where you make it your own.

The Aluminum Trio (V1, V2, V3): Sleek, Substantial, and Premium

The aluminum-handled versions (V1, V2, V3) have a solid, premium feel and weigh 104.5 grams. The B2124V1 features a purple anodized aluminum handle with micro-milling and a blackwash Nitro-V blade—bold, eye-catching, and perfect for those who want a pop of color. The B2124V2 pairs a sleek black aluminum handle with a striking rose gold-finished Nitro-V blade, creating a sophisticated, modern look. The B2124V3 is the premium option, featuring a beadblasted aluminum handle and a stunning water ripple Damascus blade—each pattern unique, making this a true collector’s piece at $85.89.

The G10 Trio (V4, V5, V6): Lightweight, Textured, and Durable

The G10-handled versions (V4, V5, V6) are lighter at 96.7 grams, with a textured diamond pattern for excellent grip. The B2124V4 features a black G10 handle with a stonewashed Nitro-V blade—classic, understated, and ready for any environment. The B2124V5 offers a warm olive green G10 handle with a blackwash Nitro-V blade, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who want a natural look with a rugged blade finish. The B2124V6 provides a versatile gray G10 handle with a stonewashed Nitro-V blade—neutral, professional, and easy to pair with any gear.

Which Heron Flies into Your Pocket?

All six share Johan’s excellent leaf-shaped blade design and reliable crossbar lock. The aluminum versions—purple, black/rose gold, and beadblasted/Damascus—offer a sleek, premium feel with bold or sophisticated accents. The G10 versions—black, olive green, and gray—provide a lightweight, textured grip for those who prioritize durability and a natural feel. Whether you’re fishing by the river, camping in the woods, or carrying it every day, there’s a Heron for every style.
