Specifications
Kansept Fenrir G3034A4 — D2 Wharncliffe Fixed Blade
The Kansept Fenrir G3034A4 is a compact fixed blade aimed at the jobs a folder should not be asked to do. The 2.87 in blade is D2 tool steel at 58-61 HRC in a gray TiCn coated finish, flat ground into a wharncliffe profile that puts every millimetre of the edge on the cut - which is exactly what you want on heavy cardboard, rope and hide. The Light Sand G10 handle gives a full four-finger grip in a 3.03 oz package, and the knife ships with a moulded Kydex sheath. It is part of the Kansept Fenrir line drawn by Sparrow Knife Co and listed alongside our EDC knives and best sellers.
D2 Tool Steel Behind a Wharncliffe Edge
D2 is the reason the Fenrir cuts above its price. It runs 58-61 HRC with a wall of chromium carbides behind the edge, so it keeps cutting long after the 14C28N and Nitro-V blades next to it have started to skate. The trade is that D2 is only stain resistant - it wants a wipe and a drop of oil - and it sharpens best on a diamond plate rather than the stone in the kitchen drawer. On a short fixed blade that sees board, rope and hide, that trade is worth taking. Every G3034 variant - Fenrir fixed blades, the full Fenrir line - uses the same blade; only the handle changes.
Why the Fenrir Belongs in Your Pocket
- D2 tool steel at 58-61 HRC: noticeably better edge holding than the stainless steels at this price.
- Wharncliffe blade - a dead-straight 2.87 in edge with a reinforced point, the best shape for slicing cardboard and rope.
- Fixed blade construction: no pivot, no lock, nothing to develop play after a year in a pocket.
- Light Sand G10 handle gives real grip texture in wet or oily hands.
- 3.03 oz and 6.5 in overall - small enough to disappear, large enough for a genuine four-finger grip.
- Moulded Kydex sheath included, so it carries on a belt, in a bag or as a neck knife with a chain.
- Flat ground at 3.5 mm stock: strong behind the edge but thin enough to cut rather than wedge.
- Sparrow Knife Co's angular build with a pronounced forward guard so your hand never slides forward.
Best Uses for the Fenrir
- Breaking down cardboard and cutting strapping - the wharncliffe edge does this better than any drop point.
- Camping and hiking, where a fixed blade opens packages, shaves tinder and preps food with no mechanism to foul.
- Hunting and field dressing: no pivot gap for blood and hair to work into.
- Workshop and garage duty - cutting hose, gasket material, tape and rope all day long.
- Backup carry in a pack or on a belt when a folder is not enough knife.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is D2 stainless?
No. D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel with around 12 percent chromium - stain resistant, not stainless. Wipe it dry after use and oil it every month or two and it will outlast the handle.
Does the Fenrir come with a sheath?
Yes. Every G3034 variant ships with a moulded black Kydex sheath sized to the blade.
Can I sharpen D2 on a normal stone?
You can, but it is slow. D2's chromium carbides cut best on a diamond plate, finished on ceramic or a loaded strop.
What is the difference between G3034A2 through A6?
Handle material and blade finish only. A2 is blackwash D2 on copper carbon fibre, A3 is green coated D2 on jade G10 with the undead print, A4 is gray TiCn on light sand G10, A5 is rose gold on purple Micarta, A6 is blackwash on 80S camo carbon fibre. Steel, grind and dimensions are identical.
Is a 2.87 in blade enough for real work?
For 90 percent of daily cutting, yes. The wharncliffe geometry means the entire edge cuts at once, so a short blade outperforms a longer drop point on straight-line cuts.
D2 Tool Steel vs. Common Fixed Blade Steels
| Steel | Typical HRC | Edge Retention | Corrosion Resistance | Toughness | Sharpening Ease |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| D2 (this knife) | 58-61 | Very Good | Fair | Good | Moderate |
| CPM-3V | 58-60 | Good | Good | Excellent | Moderate |
| 154CM | 58-61 | Good | Good | Very Good | Moderate |
| Nitro-V | 59-61 | Good | Very Good | Better | Easy |
| 14C28N | 59-61 | Good | Excellent | Good | Very Easy |
| 8Cr13MoV | 57-59 | Fair | Good | Good | Very Easy |
D2 is a high-carbon, high-chromium semi-stainless tool steel: at 58-61 HRC it holds a working edge longer than any of the budget stainless steels, but it is only stain-resistant, not stainless, and its dense carbides want a diamond plate. Wipe it dry and it will outlast the handle. HRC figures are typical mill ranges.
Glossary of Key Terms
Sparrow Knife CoThe design studio credited on the Kansept Fenrir line - mechanical, angular shapes with a pronounced forward finger guard and a full four-finger grip.
D2 Tool Steel
A high-carbon, high-chromium semi-stainless tool steel at 58-61 HRC. Outstanding wear resistance and toughness for a fixed blade; wipe it dry and oil it occasionally.
Wharncliffe Blade
A dead-straight edge rising to a reinforced point. All the cutting power sits along one continuous line, which is why it excels on cardboard, rope and hide.
Fixed Blade
A full-tang knife with no folding mechanism: fewer parts to fail, a stronger joint and instant deployment. It carries in a sheath rather than a pocket.
Kydex Sheath
A thermoformed thermoplastic sheath moulded to the exact knife profile. It holds by friction, drains water, and will not rot the way leather eventually does.
Copper Carbon Fibre
Carbon fibre laminate layered with copper mesh so the milled surface shows copper veining that darkens into a patina as you handle it.
80S Camo Carbon Fibre
An eight-layer camouflage-weave carbon fibre that changes colour with the light - light, rigid and completely immune to humidity.
Undead Print G10
A printed graphic sheet sealed into the G10 laminate: eyeballs, tentacles and split-complementary colour, all sealed under resin so it cannot rub off.
Micarta
Layers of linen or canvas compressed and cured in resin. It gets grippier when wet and wears into a personal patina over years of use.
Who Should Buy the Fenrir
- You want a fixed blade that behaves like a cutting tool rather than a tactical prop.
- You cut a lot of cardboard, strapping or rope and want the wharncliffe edge doing the work.
- You are hard on your knives and would rather have no pivot to develop play.
- You want D2's edge retention without paying super-steel money.
- You need a small fixed blade you can carry on a belt or as a neck knife.
Who Should Skip It
- You will not wipe a blade dry - D2 is semi-stainless and will spot if it lives wet.
- You want a one-hand-opening folder for a front pocket.
- You need a blade longer than 3 in for skinning or heavy camp work.
- You dislike coated blades and expect the finish to stay pristine through hard use.
- You want a stainless you can ignore for a season; 14C28N or Nitro-V is the better choice for that.
Care & Maintenance
- Wipe the blade dry after every use - D2 resists wear far better than it resists water.
- Oil the blade every four to eight weeks; D2 is semi-stainless and will spot if you store it damp.
- Sharpen on a diamond plate; D2's dense carbide structure defeats ordinary aluminium-oxide stones.
- Use light, consistent strokes and finish on a ceramic rod or strop to refine the apex.
- Rinse with warm water and mild soap after food or field work, then dry immediately.
- Never pry or twist the tip; the hardness that holds the edge also chips under lateral load.
- Coated blades: let the finish wear naturally - exposed steel behaves the same, just brighter.
- Wipe the Kydex sheath out with a dry cloth so grit never scratches the blade coating.
- Re-torque any body or sheath screws periodically with the correct driver.
