Description

The Rockstead HIGO-X-IW-ZDP represents an extraordinary fusion of high-end industrial engineering and organic artistry. Designed for premium EDC connoisseurs, this elite gentleman's folder features a ZDP189 powder stainless steel core clad in VG10, hardened to an incredible 67 HRC for world-class edge retention. Its meticulously crafted blade utilizes a varying angle transition to maximize slicing efficiency and tip strength. The handle structure breaks away from traditional tactical designs, pairing a robust, matte-finished titanium chassis with rich, hand-selected Desert Ironwood overlays. Outfitted with dual thumb studs and an impeccably tuned liner lock, the HIGO-X-IW delivers buttery-smooth deployment and zero-tolerance lockup. It is a true masterpiece of cutting geometry, offering serious collectors the perfect balance of natural warmth and futuristic precision.

Key Features

  • Ultra-Hard ZDP189 Clad Core (~67 HRC) The blade utilizes a high-performance core of ZDP189 powder stainless steel jacketed by resilient VG10. Hardened to an incredible 67 HRC, it delivers industry-leading edge retention while maintaining the structural flexibility needed for real-world tasks.

  • Varying Blade Angle Geometry Driven by an obsessive pursuit of the perfect cut, the blade profile features a continuous, progressive angle transition—decreasing from 30 degrees near the half to 24 degrees near the tip. This advanced engineering maximizes slicing leverage while preserving absolute tip strength.

  • Premium Desert Ironwood & Matte Titanium Handle The chassis is precision-milled from robust titanium with a sleek matte finish, layered with stunning Desert Ironwood scales. This rare, ultra-dense wood brings a classic, organic warmth and unique grain pattern to an otherwise high-tech folding knife.

  • Overbuilt, Reliable Liner Lock Engineered for hard use and absolute safety, the heavy-duty liner lock mechanism engages flawlessly with a satisfying click, ensuring zero blade play and smooth, effortless one-handed closing.

ZDP189 Blade Introduction

ZDP-189 is a high-carbon, high-chromium powder metallurgy steel renowned for its extreme hardness, often exceeding 64 HRC, which delivers peerless edge retention and aggressive cutting performance. This performance comes at a cost; its massive carbide volume makes the steel notoriously difficult to sharpen and increases brittleness, posing a risk of chipping under heavy lateral impact. Furthermore, while technically stainless, its high carbon content necessitates diligent maintenance to prevent oxidation, making it a specialized choice for precision cutting tasks rather than rough, heavy-duty utility.

This knife is a flagship knife of our HIGO series. The ZDP189 blade can cut Manila rope 1,000 times, and still slices cleanly through paper. This knife has a blade angle of 30 degrees near the haft, and 24 degrees near the tip with one continuous, gradually reducing angle connecting them. This reducing blade angle is a product of Rockstead's continuing pursuit of superior sharpness. This knife is of preeminent sharpness. The blade will only maintain a permanent shine through regular wiping. The scales are attached by two screws, and so after cutting fish or wild game, the knife is easy to dismantle and clean.

肥後"HIGO" in Japanese means "the old name of the "kyushu" district in Japan".

HIGO X-IW-ZDP FAQ Section

Q1: Does the Desert Ironwood handle require special maintenance?

A: Desert Ironwood is one of the densest and most stable woods in the world, making it naturally resistant to moisture and rot. To keep it looking its best, simply wipe it dry if it gets wet, and occasionally rub a drop of mineral oil or wood wax into the scales to bring out the natural depth of the grain.

Q2: Why does Rockstead use a clad (San Mai) ZDP189 blade?

A: Rockstead clads the ultra-hard ZDP189 core steel with outer layers of VG10 steel. This provides the best of both worlds: the ZDP189 core gives the edge a mind-boggling 67 HRC hardness for incredible sharpness, while the VG10 jackets add crucial lateral toughness and flexibility, ensuring the blade isn't brittle under stress.

Q3: How do I access sharpening and maintenance for this knife?

A: Due to the varying blade angle and extreme hardness, you should never use standard sharpening stones on a Rockstead. Every knife comes with an individual serial number. Register your knife on Rockstead's official website to activate their Lifetime Warranty and Free Factory Resharpening Service.
