Bestech Hornet BG12 Review: A 3.35 Inch D2 Worker With Green G10
Bestech Hornet BG12C with stonewash and satin D2 blade and green black G10 handle

Overview & First Impressions

The Hornet is the bigger sibling of the Grampus and the more interesting knife. A 3.35 inch D2 blade with a combination stonewash and satin CNC grind, green and black G10 scales, and a liner lock. It is sized for people who find three inch blades a compromise, and it is built to take the sort of use that ruins a lighter folder in a season.

Materials & Construction

D2 at a working hardness, ground with a CNC bevel that stays crisp and finished in a stonewash-and-satin combination that hides scratches while still catching light along the bevel. G10 handles are textured for grip and essentially immune to weather. The liner lock is stainless, the washers are phosphor bronze, and the hardware is standard torx which makes maintenance possible without special tools.

Design & Details

The blade is a broad drop point with a high flat grind and a swedge that stiffens the tip, proportioned to give you a full four finger grip on the handle. There is a pronounced finger guard formed by the handle contour, jimping where your thumb lands and a flipper tab that doubles as a guard when open. It is a functional shape rather than a fashionable one, and the proportions work for people with large hands.

Real-World Use

Camp chores, garden work, cutting rope and hose, breaking down appliance boxes, processing firewood kindling — a 3.35 inch D2 blade with a thick spine is the right tool for all of it. It is heavy enough for light chopping and controlled enough for whittling, which is a wider range than most folders at this price manage. It is not a knife for a suit pocket, and it does not pretend to be one.

Ownership Notes

D2 will rust if neglected, so dry it after wet work and oil the blade if it lives outdoors. The combination finish hides wear but does not stop corrosion. Sharpen with diamond, keep the bevel angle consistent and do not let it get properly dull, because restoring a D2 edge from flat takes real work. Oil the pivot, clean the lock face, and check the clip screws every few months since they take the most stress. A blade in D2 steel at this length gives you real chopping ability in a folder, and Bestech knives have the heat treat dialled in; among folding knives for outdoor work it is the practical answer, and it out-cuts most EDC knives of the same size.

Who Is This For?

This is for the person who wants one folder for outdoor work and does not care about pocket jewellery. It suits gardeners, campers, hunters, farm and ranch users, and anyone whose knife lives in a tool bag. Skip it if you want a light dress folder, if you dislike D2 maintenance, or if local law limits blade length to three inches.

Final Verdict

The Hornet is the best argument for a bigger budget folder in the Bestech range: 3.35 inches of D2, a grind that holds up, a handle that fills your hand and a lock that will not surprise you. It is not pretty in the way a titanium frame lock is pretty, but it is capable in a way most of them are not. EdcMall carries all three variants.
