Trivisa Otter Ultra Review: The 3.39 Ounce Folder That Does Everything
Trivisa Otter Ultra-B JM14U-B-M with black stonewashed M390 drop point blade

Overview & First Impressions

If the Scarab is the showpiece, the Otter is the one that ends up in your pocket every day. It runs a 2.99 inch drop point in M390, a 60 HRC heat treat, titanium handles and the same crossbar lock, but the handle is a touch longer and the blade carries more belly. At 6.84 inches overall and 3.39 ounces it is the most usable knife Trivisa makes for actual work.

Materials & Construction

M390 at 60 HRC with a black stonewash finish, which is the most forgiving surface a working knife can wear — it hides scratches, resists fingerprints and does not glare. Titanium slabs give it a stiffness that aluminium cannot match at the same weight, and the ceramic bearing pivot keeps deployment smooth after the honeymoon. Nothing here is decorative for the sake of it, and the hardware takes a torx bit without stripping.

Design & Details

The drop point has a gentle continuous curve rather than a hard belly, which makes it useful for both push cuts and slicing. There is a proper finger guard formed by the handle contour, and the jimping is fine enough to grip without shredding a thumb. The crossbar lock sits where your thumb naturally lands, and the pocket clip is a deep carry wire that leaves almost nothing above the seam. It is a design that disappears, which is the highest compliment.

Real-World Use

I carried this for a week of mixed duty: cardboard, paracord, a stubborn plastic clamshell, some garden twine and one unfortunate apple. It handled everything without hot spots, and the extra handle length over the Scarab made the difference during longer sessions. The stonewash still looks new. For general EDC knives duty, this is the geometry most people should be buying rather than a tactical spear point.

Ownership Notes

Maintenance is boring in the best way. Wipe it, oil the pivot every few weeks, strop the edge when it stops biting. M390 will outlast your enthusiasm for sharpening, so invest in a diamond stone once and be done. The lock channel collects pocket lint faster than a frame lock, so a toothpick every month keeps the action crisp. A paracord lanyard with a lanyard bead makes it easier to fish out of a deep pocket. Compared with other folding knives in the same size class, the Otter gives up nothing in the hand and gains a handle that stays comfortable through long sessions instead of punishing your palm after twenty minutes.

Who Is This For?

This is the one-knife answer for someone who wants titanium, M390 and a crossbar lock without learning a new manual. It suits tradespeople, hikers, and the person who only owns two knives and uses both. Skip it if you want a hard use folder for camp chores — 2.99 inches is not a chopper — or if you have very large hands and prefer a four inch handle.

Final Verdict

The Otter Ultra is the least flashy knife in this launch and the one I would recommend first to anyone who is not a collector. Balanced, smooth, sensibly sized, and finished in a way that survives real use instead of only surviving a display case. EdcMall has both the stonewashed B and the satin S versions, and either one is a sensible place to start.
