Trivisa Sloth Ultra YD05 Review: M390 Meets Copper and Carbon Fiber
Trivisa Sloth Ultra YD05 with M390 blade and copper carbon fiber handle

Overview & First Impressions

The Sloth Ultra YD05 is the weighty, warm-handed one of the Trivisa debut, pairing a copper-and-carbon-fiber handle with an M390 blade and the family crossbar lock. Copper handles have a cult following for good reason: they add mass exactly where your fingers wrap, they feel alive in cold weather, and they age into a patina no anodizing can fake. Three trims exist, and all three share the same excellent blade.

Materials & Construction

The blade is Bohler M390 at roughly three inches, stonewashed on the PL and GC versions with a satin finish on the PC, hardened into the low 60s. Copper bolsters sit against carbon fiber scales on the PC and PL, while the GC goes full carbon fiber for the lightweight crowd. The steel liners are milled rather than stamped, and the crossbar channel is cleanly cut. Weight lands around four ounces, and the balance point sits right under the pivot where a folder should.

Design & Details

The profile is a wide teardrop with a tall belly and a clipped area near the tip, shaped for push cuts rather than piercing. The copper heats visually against the dark carbon fiber, and the contrast will be the reason half of you buy this knife. Jimping is modest but correctly placed on the spine and above the lock. The clip is titanium-colored, rides deep, and the lanyard hole accepts a couple of lanyard beads without fouling the mechanism.

Real-World Use

In hand, the copper does real work: the added rear mass drives the belly through material with less finger effort, and the warm metal makes winter pocket draws pleasant. The crossbar lock cycles smoothly one-handed, and the blade falls shut with authority. M390 shrugs off tape adhesive, fruit acid and a week of box duty without a smear of rust, and the edge stays shaving-sharp far longer than the 14C28N models in the lineup.

Ownership Notes

Copper patina is a feature, and how fast it develops depends on your climate and handwashing habits. If the rainbow oxidations bother you, a wipe with Flitz returns the shine in two minutes; if you love the sunset look, do nothing and enjoy. The carbon fiber needs nothing beyond an occasional damp cloth. Oil the pivot seasonally and the action will outlive your interest in polishing anything. For a folder that looks this expensive, the Sloth Ultra is a reminder that folding knives can be fun again: heavy metal, real steel, and a patina you earn by carrying it.

Who Is This For?

Buy the PC or PL if you want the copper story and a handle that feels hand-hammered by comparison to every aluminum folder you own. Buy the GC if you love the blade but count grams. This is a knife for the enthusiast with a small rotation, the guy whose desk drawers have aged like a wine cellar, and gift-givers shopping for someone who has everything except this.

Final Verdict

The Sloth Ultra is the most characterful folder in the Trivisa launch, and the materials do the talking: real copper, real carbon fiber, real M390. Nothing about the price suggests this combination should exist yet, and yet here it is on EdcMall with three trims in stock. Pick the PC as the all-rounder, the GC to save weight, and the PL if you want maximum drama per gram.
